Preparing for your MBA applications: The Next 3 Steps

Aniekeme

The 2023/2024 application season is kicking off! Virtual and in-person MBA admissions events are taking place around the world, and some schools have released their application deadlines.

In this previous article, I shared the first 2 things to do in preparation for your MBA application:

1. Solidify Your Goals
2. Choose Your Test And Start Prepping

Today, I will share the next 3 steps to take as you tackle your business school applications:

3. Review your resume

Your resume is likely as recent as your latest employment search. If it does not (yet) reflect the work you have done recently, take some time to update it. Keep in mind that writing effective bullet points for the experience section of a resume requires effort. If you take the time to do so now, you will free yourself up later in the application cycle.

Your resume should be a snapshot of your experiences and achievements, showing that you have the transferable skills needed to succeed at business school.

Additionally, updating your resume by looking at your past accomplishments provides additional time for introspection. Think about what motivated you to join your current or past employer, what you enjoy most about your current job, and what has led you to this point of wanting to get an MBA.

4. Engage with your schools

Really getting to know the schools you’re applying to will help ensure you select the program that challenges and best supports you with your future trajectory.

Engage with your schools through events and connect with the admissions team, current students, and alumni. By doing so, you will not only learn more about them but also be able to articulate how their specific MBA can help you reach your goals and what you would uniquely contribute to their school’s community.

These are questions you may be asked in your essays and during the interview, so do the legwork now to have a clear answer when the time comes.

5. Identify and connect with your recommenders

The most helpful letters of recommendation will be professional in nature and will come from someone who directly supervised you. You want your recommender to be someone who has the knowledge, desire, and time to advocate for you. You also want them to have plenty of notice, as writing an effective letter of recommendation requires time and effort.

Taking these steps will help you ease the stress of the application process. I hope you found this newsletter helpful. You can also access a video of this content and join the conversation on YouTube!

Fun Clicker But Sprunki Simon game surprised me in a good way. The idea is simple, but the loop makes it fun to keep clicking.
