Aniekeme's Story

Executive & Leader

Aniekeme Umoh is a global executive, board-level operator, and cross-sector leader whose career spans consulting, investment banking, education, retail, and technology. She currently serves as Chief Operating Officer of The uLesson Group, a pan-African edtech company that includes uLesson K12 (with over five million app downloads) and Miva Open University, Nigeria’s first private online university.

Aniekeme has driven operational excellence, investor relations, product and growth strategy across the group’s 350+ staff. She has overseen everything from launching a marquee fully online MBA, exceeding enrollment targets by 700%, to supporting the execution of the country’s largest K12 edtech deal, a $10.5m government contract.

Her leadership also extends to fundraising and governance: she quarterbacked an oversubscribed $6m bridge round, shapes executive decision-making with her board-level insights, and manages relationships with some of the world’s leading investors, including Owl Ventures, TLcom, LocalGlobe, and Tencent.

In parallel, Aniekeme founded a boutique MBA admissions consulting practice that helped candidates gain admission into the world’s most competitive business schools like Harvard, Wharton, Columbia, and Yale, while securing more than $600,000 in scholarships. The practice became known for its personalized, high-touch approach, reflecting her broader commitment to enabling access and excellence in education.

Thinker & Speaker

Beyond her executive work, Aniekeme is a sought-after thought leader on education, innovation, and leadership. She has spoken at Harvard and Columbia Business School, TEDx, Meta, BambooHR’s global summit, and the Mandela-Washington Institute, among others. She is recognized for her ability to blend strategic thinking with on-the-ground execution; whether advising on Africa’s megatrends, moderating masterclasses with leaders like the Permanent Secretary of Nigeria’s Ministry of Education, or sharing lessons on startup growth and scaling.

Her thought leadership also extends to writing. Through her articles, she explores themes at the intersection of education, leadership, technology, and identity, offering practical insights for operators, reflective essays on culture, and forward-looking commentary on Africa’s role in the global knowledge economy. These writings complement her public speaking by providing a deeper, more sustained reflection on the ideas she advocates on stage.

Her academic background includes an MBA from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania (where she was awarded the Wharton Emerging Economy Fellowship and McKinsey Scholar Fellowship) and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Columbia University (where she graduated with honors and was a Davis Scholar, a recognition reserved for the top 10% of the admitted engineering class).

Creator & Cultural Advocate

Aniekeme is equally passionate about storytelling, art, and cultural preservation. She is the co-founder of Uyai Akwa Ibom Educational Resources (UAIER), an initiative dedicated to preserving the Ibibio language and customs. Through UAIER, she co-authored the Iko Ibibio children’s book series, developed learning flashcards, started a reading nook for in-person activations and supported the roll-out of UAIER textbooks for use in primary schools in Akwa Ibom State.

She taught herself to speed paint in her 20s and now focuses on portraiture that allows her to engage deeply with the emotions and underlying meaning in the human face. Her work has been showcased in New York and is featured on her platform @aniekeme.art
