2 Things To Do Now To Prepare For Your MBA Applications

Aniekeme

The MBA application process can be time-consuming, complex, and stressful. But it doesn’t have to be. As applications open in June, now is a great time to get these two items addressed.

1. Solidify your goals

Do your desired post-MBA goals align with and support what you enjoyed doing in the past? Are they different? Do you need an MBA to achieve them?

These are some questions you should ask yourself to solidify your post-MBA goals. You’ll want to then research your target industries and companies to see what post-MBA roles are available there. This preparation will help you get clear on what you want to get out of the MBA and how it will give you a return on your investment.

2. Choose your test and start prepping early

Take some time to research the GMAT and GRE to determine which structure and format is best suited to your abilities. Most of the top business schools now accept the GRE and do not prefer one test over the other.

Take a practice test to see how you fare on either and choose one. Give yourself enough time to prepare, to study, practice, and re-test if needed.

Ideally, you will want to have your strongest score about a month before the application deadline to give yourself time to focus on other parts of your application (essays, interview prep, etc.).

Look at your target school’s ranges, not just averages as way to set a target score for yourself. These tests are not the most important part of your application, but the admissions committee looks at them as reflective of your academic aptitude. So start early and test as best as you can.

By taking these steps now, you’ll be in a much better position for the rest of the application process. So start today and make your MBA dreams a reality.
